NEW RELEASE

Serras

- The third release by this folk/rock/jazz band "...Serras have simply made a folk rock album which is close to the best one ever from a Danish group..."

:
We proudly present the third CD from the Danish world/rock/jazz/folk band SERRAS - Stand clear of the closing doors please. GO0404

Guests starring the traditional Danish folk band Lang Linken (www.langlinken.dk) Carl Erik Lundgaard, Keld Nørgaard and Poul Lendal).

"..Serras have simply made a folk rock album which is close to the best one ever from a Danish group. Music that reaches out far and deserves international attention.
(Five out of six stars)
Torben Holleufer - DK Gaffa
(In English by Steen Svanholm)

Serras was formed six years ago. At that time it was evident for them to take a starting point in the Danish 18th century music because the tunes from that period are so strong.
Since then, they have played a long row of concerts in Denmark and abroad, and recorded the two highly recommended CDs with new arrangements of music from that period: "Serras"(-99) GO0499 and "Second Hand"(-01) GO0201.

We now present the third album that, besides one theme from the 18th century and an old psalm the 19th century, consists of new compositions.

The music, however, sounds unmistakably like Serras seeing that the folk musical roots still make the starting point for their melodies and arrangements. Besides own compositions, they have borrowed a few themes from some of their friends, and at one recording, the folk music group, Lang Linken (the godfathers of Danish folk), appearing with their fantastic music.

Serras line up:
Harald Haugaard-fiddle, strings, hurdy gurdy
Hans Mydtskov-saxophones & whistles
Sune Hånsbæk-guitars, mandolin, octave mandolin
Mads Riishede-bass
Sune Rahbek-drums

"Serras create their own universe

About 25 years ago, when I first experienced Runrig at The Tønder Festival, I felt a rush. The Scottish musicians revolutionized folk music with their intense folk rock and it went straight to my blood.

What has that got to do with Danish Serras? Quite a bit actually: I can feel the rush. Those shivers down my spine from the thrill of experiencing the birth of something great.

Just as their Scottish colleagues, Serras take a starting point in the roots of their native country. For Serras, the Danish tunes of the 18th century have also inspired the band's third CD: Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors, Please.

But contrary to earlier, the musicians of Serras, this time to a large extend, have composed most of the tunes themselves.

The result is: impressive and experimenting folk rock that gets an even more consistent style and gets the unmistakable character of Serras: Instrumental music played with an irresistible energy, a saturated intense sound lead by a brilliantly playing and almost toying violinist, Harald Haugaard, who is framed by well and sometimes crudely played guitar and bass from Sune Hånsbek and Mads Riishede, Sune Rahbek's excited drums, and Hans Mydtskov's supreme saxophone.

It is done with love of Danish folk music and a flair, so the folk music is treated with respect in contrast to the current and energetic hard rock that Serras expose the history of music to.

With Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors, Please, Serras have created a new universe in folk music, not only in this country (Denmark), but also on the international stage. Someone may already have whispered this in the ears of Serras. At least, both title and cover are international; made ready for an adventure abroad which is not new to Serras. Both the band and Harald Haugaard have on several occasions been used as a cultural spearhead of Denmark abroad. Feel the rush yourself!"

DK:

Serras tredje album

"Stand Clear at the Closing Doors - Please" (GO0404).

Trackliste:

1. Nyt Liv, Harald Haugaard/Serras 4:56
2. K2, Harald Haugaard/Hans Mydtskov/Serras 3:32

Bandet fortæller selv om albummets titel;

"I december 2003 spillede vi i New York.

"This my friend is reincarnations rather than recreation ... Serras create soundscapes so huge, the echoes and resounds a thousand times".

You know them from Sorten Muld, Blues Brothers Souvenir Show, Puls, DK-lokomotive and Haugaard&Høirup.
Now from the first time they are together in the band Serras. Most of the members of Serras have their roots in styles of music other than traditional, but they all have a great interest in exploring, working with and expressing music emerging from their own culture. Harald Haugaard, the one in Serras most deeply involved with traditional Danish music, found a number of themes in old dusty music books from, among others, the clerk Rasmus Storm from the south Funen, the flautist Count Otto von Raben from Lolland and the Faeroese student of theology, Jens Christian Svabonius from Copenhagen.
