The
swinging American/Danish folk band has collected some of their best earlier
recordings on this CD. Listen to the American and Scandinavian tunes played
by the American fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld, the Danish guitarplayer Morten
Alfred Høirup and the Norwegian bassplayer Anders Hofset and you will feel
a happy magic.
Guest musicians: Pelle
Lindstrom - Harmonica, percussion, vocal ; Peter Gorm Sørensen - Fiddle
; Hans Leonardo Pedersen - Saxophone
Tove
de Fries- fiddle and Malene - piano.
Tove and Malene have been an active part of the Danish Folk Music scene
for many years. They formed the duo "de Fries & D. Beck, through
a love and respect for the music and dance traditions of Denmark. Balance is their debut-CD and includes traditional melodies from
the various regions of Denmark, with several selections from the repertoire
of Niels de Fries (Tove's father) from western Jutland.
Tove also performs
in the group "Baltinget".
Malene performs in the group "Instinkt"
- both popular groups in Denmark that represent more contemporary traditions.
Balance is
a snapshot of the evolving repertoire and compelling musicianship of this
exciting duo.
THE VINEYARD - six
new melodies by Morten Alfred Høirup and three old ballads - all in new
arrangements. Played by established professional folk-musicians from USA,
Finland and Denmark : Morten Alfred Høirup(DK)-Ruthie Dornfeld(USA)-Tapani
Varis(F) - Cark Erik Lundgaard (DK) - Poul Lendal (DK) - Keld Nørgaard
(DK).
The very unusual and
old Danish instruments used on many of the tracks give you a new version
of this old European music as it might have sounded before it developed
into what we today know as Danish traditional Folk music.
Morten Alfred has
created a name for himself throughout Scandinavia as a young rythm guitarist
within a variety of genres: Danish, Celtic, American, French-Canadian
and contemporary folk music.
