Debut Album from Danish Folk Music Masters
Sonnich Lydom & Morten Alfred Høirup – folk music from Denmark
Sonnich Lydom and Morten Alfred Høirup are thrilled to announce the March 1, '10 release of their debut album together, Svip Svap Svovlstikke, on the GO! Danish Folk Music label (GO 0110).
Lydom and Høirup, both veteran performers on the Danish folk scene, have each traveled the world with their music (ULC, Haugaard & Høirup a.m.o.),, recorded a number of albums and received all in all nine Danish Music Awards (the Danish equivalent of ’Grammys’). On Svip Svap Svovlstikke, Sonnich Lydom plays 1 and 2 row diatonic accordion as well as blues and tremolo harmonica; Morten Alfred Høirup sings and plays guitar in standard and open tunings.
The album is named for a beautiful old dance tune from the small Danish island of Fanø. Lydom culled much of the music on the album from old tune collections and from archives at the Danish Institute of Folklore (www.dafos.dk) This fantastic music has never before been recorded or published. Also on the album are three tunes composed by Høirup, who was named Danish Folk Music Composer of the Year in 2004, and three Danish songs, one of which has music by Lydom. Joining the duo are good friends and colleagues from Denmark, Finland and the USA: Danish klezmer queen Channe Nussbaum on vocals, American fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld, Finnish jews harpist Tapani Varis and Danish fiddler Peter Gorm Sørensen, amongst others.
