grad været gældende for Kirstines vej igennem uddannelsen
Bedste hilsner.
Peter Uhrbrand.

KIRSTINE SAND-
Det dansende par GO0507
Debut CD
by Kirstine Sand - one of our greatest young Danish fiddlers.
Kirstine
Sand is one of our upcoming young Danish fiddleplayers. She plays traditional
Danish music with lots of nerve, joy and energy. She has been playing
the fiddle since she was 6 years old and have been thought both classical
and traditional music. Since 2001 she has been studying at the Carl Nielsen
Academy of Music in Odense, where she has been thought in amongst other
things the special style of music from the Isle of Fanø by Peter
Uhrbrand. In 2005/06 she was an exchange student at the University of
Newcastle, UK where she was thought by Catriona MacDonald.
She has on

It is
always fascinating to be able to follow another human being in her development,
as she travels along the ever-changing and mysterious paths of life. It
is especially interesting, a bit frightening and a big privilege, when
you as a teacher and mentor slowly but clearly realise and acknowledge
that talent, courage, creativity and openness as well as discipline, ambition,
will, sheer strength and a devil-may-care attitude along with a lot of
hard work, "suddenly" is able to redefine the reality of human
beings. This has very much been the case for Kirstine during her years
at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, Denmark.
It has been a great pleasure following Kirstine Sand's development from
a slightly insecure and not very self-conscious musician, over a brief
stint at the Academy's pedagogical line till today where she now and in
the future will function as a professional and artistically mature folk
musician - exploring and challenging.
This CD is very much a testimony to the great musical span and capability
that exists in Kirstine's universe of music, where creativity and creation
charmingly is combined with tradition and cultural awareness.
Best of luck in the future :-)
Sincerely,
Peter Uhrbrand

Biography
Kirstine Sand grew up in a home filled with folk music; her grandfather
played the accordion and her brother played the violin. She started on
the violin herself when she was 6 years old after curiously watching many
of her brother's violin lessons. After a few years she started playing
for folk dancers and has since then stayed interested in traditional folk
music.
In 2001 she started her professional education at the Carl Nielsen Academy
of Music, Funen, Denmark. At first she studied music pedagogy, but after
a few years she changed her major to folk and music specifically. She
has received lessons from the folk musician Peter Uhrbrand, who is originally
from the Danish Island of Fanø.
Through various projects with musicians from the UK, Kirstine became interested
in Scottish folk music and in 2005/06 she studied a year at the University
of Newcastle. There she mainly received lessons from Catriona MacDonald
from the Shetland Islands. In May 2007, Kirstine finished her education
from the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music.
