Kefir Kvartet:
Asger Christensen ~ Violin & irsk bouzouki.
Mads B. Jørgensen ~ Guitar, citar, græsk bouzouki & lap steel.
Jesper D. Nielsen ~ Melodika, kontra- & el-bas.
Christian "Ceppe" Petersen ~ Trommer, cajon & perc.
When you’ve got the new Kefir Kvartet CD on, and you press play on your CD-player, you’re taken on a musical journey around the world. The Danish group interprets folk music of all sorts and kinds and a mix from Danish folk hymns to Indian ragas ends up in the big Kefir Kvartet bowl and comes out as a homogenous mix.
The four musicians all have great experience in very different genres, which helps give the orchestra a unique sound and you will therefore come across elements from traditional folk music, Roma jazz, rock, Balkan polka and much more. These very different impressions are tied together by a strong improvisational thread and improvisations are therefore a cornerstone in the very special Kefir Kvartet sound.
Kefir Kvartet was founded in the year 2000 as a playground, where the four musicians could experiment with other genres than the ones normally encountered. The musicians are still the same and the orchestra has kept a playful and curious access to music through the years – whether it is a 500 year old tune or written by the members themselves.
Here we see an exceptional Danish proposal to musical globalisation, where in one moment the listener can find inner peace through the beautiful ballads and in the next, dance joyfully to marvellous energy outlets in odd time signatures.
